After having gone through one year of this class I have made several conclusions. I am very proud of having made a documentary, which didn't live up to my own standards but was still good in my opinion. It was a big work and I did lose some motivation for it as it was not as fun as I thought it would be. Seeing the finished project does make me a bit more confident in what I did to make the documentary.
One thing I thought could have been done in this class was some more tutorials on how to do things. I feel that for some of the programs we had to figure out how to do it. I felt this made the projects more difficult. I still had fun making some of my projects as it involved figuring things out and experimenting.
My favorite artwork was the "Untitled 3" by Barnett Newman (1950) was my favorite because it was so simple and very deep. You can look at it and it looks simple but the meaning was very deep as it meant to me that there two problems between groups but in the end they can meet in the middle and agree on something. This photo is by far the most simple piece but it makes me think about how simple art is and how it just represents what you are thinking. Not everything has to be complex to be beautiful.
Of the 5 photos that I am posting on my blog, the top one is my favorite. To me the pose and background just feel fun. The garbage cans really show the ability to take a great picture no matter the setting.
My current project is a movie, which is documenting the shrek musical at chute and I have learned many things in the process of making said documentary. We have been editing and I have learned the basics of how to use the Final Cut Pro, such as inserting transitions and texts that fit with the footage. I have also learned how to put b-roll over an interview when it fits with the current topic. Also in the process of making the footage (b-roll and interview) we have learned what types of angles to use during interviews and video shoots. After several interviews we have also developed experience with what types of questions we ask, to absorb the maximum amount of information from the source.
1. What am I working on this Trimester?
This trimester has been all about the musical documentary that me and Aman have been working on since the end of December, Currently we are in the editing process having all the footage from the performances from the beginning of march. We have made decent progress and we are looking to finish the documentary by at most the end of the month.
2. Things I still want to do?
Currently I do not have many ideas but I do want to continue to make video projects.
3. My best 2 photos I would like to use for the polaroid.
4. The best work that I want presented in YEA.
Right now I don't have any still projects I feel that I should present. The documentary may be the only thing I would want to present but that is not finished and it is a somewhat long video.
Currently me and Aman are working still on the Shrek Musical Documentary. We are continuing to take interviews and get footage of rehearsals, blocking, singing work and choreography. We have a good amount of footage but there are still some other parts that we need to interview for.
So far this semester I have been working an a documentary on the Shrek Musical. So far, me and Aman have done interviews, which we have cut. From this we have ideas of when and what b roll to get. Also we have scheduled other interviews with other members of the musical. We plan to have most of our footage collected by mid February on which we could edit, piece together, and finish up the project which should be done after the Musical has finished preforming.
The project I am working on now is a documentary about the Shrek musical that is happening at chute. For this project, me and Aman will be interviewing the contributors to the musical (cast, director, etc.) and piecing it together with pieces of the musical itself usually rehearsal. This total duration of the documentary should be about until the musical is over. For our project we will need atleast a good camera and a good microphone preferably one that we do not have to hold up to the person when asking our questions. We also need a quiet place to ask these questions.
